Kenya has surprisingly moved up one slot up in the latest Fifa
rankings released on Thursday by the world football governing body. The
national football team is now placed at position 116, moving up from
slot 117 that it held last month.
Harambee Stars have a total of 266 points though they have not
played any international match this year. However, Kenya still lags
behind neighbours Uganda and Tanzania. Uganda Cranes, who narrowly
missed out on this year’s Africa Cup of Nations that came to a close
last Sunday in Equatorial Guinea, have moved up one place to 76th.
Tanzania on the other hand have dropped three places to 107. Other
Cecafa region countries ahead of Kenya include Ethiopia (102) and Sudan
(112). Kenya is ahead of Burundi, who are ranked 124th. Rwanda remains
the highest-ranked country in the Cecafa region at position 72, four
places down from last month's ranking.
In Africa, Harambee Stars
ranked 36th, with Uganda (21), Ethiopia (30), Tanzania (32) and Sudan
(34). Kenya’s highest-ranking was back in December 2008, when the
country was ranked 68th globally while its lowest was in December 2007,
when the country fell to a lowly 137th place.
IVORY COAST SECOND
New African champions Ivory Coast are still
second on the continent, behind Algeria, with losing finalists Ghana
occupying third spot. The top seven positions remain the same, with
Germany still perched at the top followed by South American countries
Argentina and Colombia while Divock Origi’s Belgium are in fourth place.
