A press statement issued in Dar es Salaam on Tuesday by the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Kikwete said,
“On behalf of the government, people of Tanzania and indeed on my own
behalf, I would like to take this opportunity to extend to you, the
government and people of the Islamic Republic of Iran our profound
congratulations and best wishes on this historic occasion of celebrating
the 36th anniversary of Iran”.
He said the people of Tanzania and Iran enjoy cordial relations
cemented by historic and cultural bonds dating back long ago. He said
the relations provide a strong foundation for fraternal relations
between the two countries that have been nurtured and developed by
successive leadership in both countries.
“Tanzania and Iran maintain close cooperation in a number of
important areas such as health and education. We wish to consolidate
further and expand these relations to include other sectors such as
transport, trade, investments, technology, oil, gas and communication,”
said Kikwete in a statement.
He however assured Iran of his personal commitment as well as that
of the government to continue working closely with Tanzania at bilateral
and international levels.
He said the two country’s traditional cooperation through Non
Aligned Movement (NAM) and the United Nations (UN) aims at enhancing
peace and security as a basis for socio-economic development not only in
our countries but also at global level
