GEITA.A Standard Two pupil at Kakubilo Primary School aged ten (name withheld) was allegedly defiled by her own father over 40 days ago, it was revealed yesterday. The 40-year-old father of the child (name withheld), a resident of Kakubilo Village allegedly committed the offense on December, 25, last year and threatened to kill the minor if she disclosed the defilement. The child’s mother (name withheld) who has been separated from her husband since last year said she noticed the problem after she visited her daughter who was sick.
“When I arrived there I saw that she was unable to move properly and despite questioning her about what happened she declined to answer me. But after inspecting her keenly I noticed that she had been sexually abused,” she said. Explaining further; “I slapped the child and asked her,whether she had started engaging in bad behaviour (sex) and this is when she disclosed what really happened to her...she told me that she was defiled by her father several days ago.”
The woman noted that thereafter she reported the incident to the police who gave her a Police Form No. 3, so she could take the victim to the hospital. However, she said the minor did not immediately access treatment at Kakubilo Dispensary where she was admitted since they had no money to pay for the medical services.
“Considering the nature of this matter, I thought my child could be screened and treated free of charge but health officials demanded payment for the service and because I had no money, I left the health facility without getting any treatment until on February 2, when I got Sh30,000 from one police officer who was touched by our problems,” explained the woman. Dr Simon Mubyabuso, a medical officer in charge of Nzera Health Centre where the defiled child was later admitted, confirmed that she was defiled.
“We screened her and realised that she had been abused; she is currently undergoing treatment here after going for quite a long period without getting it,” said the physician. The head teacher of the school which the child attends, Mr Magesa Mashaballa, said they hardly received any information on the incident until the suspect was arrested.
He said the incident was the second in his school, saying a similar one occurred on January, 27, this year, when a 14-year-old girl was defiled by a 45-year-old man, who was a tenant at their house when the minor was feeding ducks in the building where the birds are being kept.
