Tanzanian envoy nominated for prestigious award

TANZANIA’s Ambassador to Belgium, Luxemburg and Mission to the European Union, Dr Diodorus Kamala, has been nominated for an Award due to his efforts in strengthening trade, promoting investment, tourism and economic relationship between Africa and Europe, with special emphasis on Tanzania. The nomination was welcomed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in Dar es Salaam, who congratulated Ambassador Kamala for the achievement in the European Union diplomatic circles.

Commenting on the development, the Chairman for Global Change for Africa Awards, Dr Collins Nweke, noted that Ambassador Kamala’s nomination was hinged not only upon his sustained service in empowering the youths of Tanzania, his activities at promoting the East African regional economic integration, but also took into cognisance his diplomatic leadership in promoting and strengthening trade.

He noted that they also recognized Ambassador Kamala’s promotion of investment, tourism and economic relationship between Africa and Europe with special emphasis on Tanzania. Dr Nweke noted that Ambassador Kamala’s efforts in serving and protecting the interest of the Tanzanian and African Diaspora in Belgium were also of note.

In its submission adducing the basis for Ambassador Kamala’s nomination, the Governing Board of Global Change for Africa Award opined that recent projections point to the potentials of Africa in the new global economic order as a break from the doomsday picture that has dominated Africa in the past decades. “Several individuals and corporations are driving these changes for Africa, mostly under the shadow. These are the unsung heroes and heroines of Africa’s rebirth.

The Global Change for Africa Awards aim to honour these individuals and corporations as change agents they truly are. And, by doing so, the Awards contribute towards retelling the story of Africa as the continent of the future,” noted Dr Nweke. He noted further that at the heart of the Global Change for Africa Awards is the belief that unity of purpose for people of Africa is vital to positive change for the continent within a global setting.

He was of the view that without doubt, Africa has had a fair share of missed opportunities and stalled growth. “This is a clear departure from the doomsday picture that has dominated the scene about the continent in the past decades. Several individuals and corporations are driving these changes for Africa, mainly under the shadows,” he pointed out.

The previous winner for this award is Ambassador Mohammed Ibn Chambas, who was the Secretary for the Africa Secretariat for the African Caribbean and Pacific countries. He is currently head of the UN office for West Africa.
